Dear geneVIEW Members,
Allow me to introduce myself.
I am Thomas Banks, Chairman, CEO and founder
of flexSCAN, Inc.
Thank you for this opportunity to share with
you our perspective on genetic testing our corporate
mission and revenue model.
First, our business is
based on a for-profit model, however, it is
important to understand that none of our
revenue is predicated on discovering diseases,
disease propensity or treatable pathology as a
result of the geneVIEW findings.
geneVIEW is a service we provide free of
charge as a component of our wellness360 suite of
wellness, medical information and medical records
services made available to businesses, individuals,
hospitals, and county/city/state entities across the
country. We derive our
revenue from advertising and sponsor support.
More interesting is that our members (you) not only
receive all our services free of charge, we
actually share a
portion of our revenue with you. Why?
Because we are committed to helping defray the
rising and out-of-control
costs of healthcare.
Second, it is important for
everyone to understand that that there isn’t always a one-to-one
relationship between "genetic predisposition" and
disease. In
order to facilitate more accurate and dependable
predictions, it is imperative that a great number of people in a population participate
in genotyping. In doing so, disease predictability will
eventually improve.
Certainly, in order for the science of
disease prediction to become more reliable the
database of genetic information must be
representative of the population.
We believe our strategy for making genetic
testing available to “everyone” enhances the
likelihood that: a) a large database will develop,
and b) the database will be representative of the
population.
No one can refute the importance
and power of genetic information.
Our mission is simple, we intend to
level the
playing field and provide fair and equal access to
breakthrough technology.
If this barrier to entry is not lowered or
removed, than the only citizens that will have
access to diagnostic and eventually effective
preventive services or treatment will be those that
can afford it.
We, along with our growing membership intend
to push back the barriers and ensure that the
information age will manifest benefits in health and
wellness, and not simply media distribution and
ecommerce.
Thank you for the opportunity to
share my thoughts and philosophy. Please join
us in advancing wellness and personal control over
our individual and collective future. I for
one wish to leave a legacy for my children of
quality and accessible healthcare that many of us
enjoy today.
